Nancy Friend Pritzker Building

A national center for excellence in the treatment of pediatric and adolescent mental health, the Nancy Friend Pritzker Building was designed for the UCSF Department of Psychiatry. This Child, Teen, and Family Center houses clinical care, research, and training in a single, remarkable, state-of-the-art space—the first of its kind.

Constructed using a unique public-private partnership, this innovative research and clinical facility unites outstanding psychiatric, mental health, and neuropsychiatric care under one roof. Creative design harnesses the inherently synergistic space, which unlocks unprecedented collaboration among these disciplines. The result is a medical and research community unlike any other that can offer a new standard of care, as well as extraordinary scientific research to the surrounding local community and national and global ones.

The Nancy Friend Pritzker Building’s design had to mirror UCSF’s cutting-edge work, but also allow for future growth. From practical requirements to following LEED Gold Standards to imagining new possibilities, this architectural trailblazer ensures that the space imposes no constraints on the care, research, and collaboration practiced within.
